50 Acts of Kindness: Restoring Comfort to Community Members in Need


50 Acts of Kindness

In celebration of our 50th anniversary and as part of our 50 Acts of Kindness, Parker & Sons is committed to helping people in our community. Throughout the year, we have pledged to help two community members each month who need home services but may not be able to afford a professional. When our HVAC technician, Devon, called to nominate 86-year-old Dave Arnett, a recent widower, we knew we wanted to take care of him. 

Following the recent passing of his beloved wife, June, on January 13th, 2024, due to complications from Parkinson's disease, Dave found himself facing unexpected challenges with his home's HVAC system. During his inspection, Devon discovered several significant issues with Dave's unit that required immediate attention. The repairs would cost more than $3,500. 

While Devon discussed the inspection with Dave, he shared the recent loss of his wife and the financial burden he was facing due to medical bills and funeral expenses. Devon called Parker and Sons immediately and nominated Dave for our 50 Acts of Kindness. Recognizing Dave as a perfect candidate for their initiative, the Parker & Sons team rallied together to provide the necessary HVAC repairs to Dave at no cost. Additionally, as a gesture of further support, they presented Dave with a $1,000 check to alleviate some of his financial burdens.

Dave was overwhelmed with the gesture, saying,  “I was laying awake ‘til the wee hours of the morning thinking how I’m going to get through all of this, and then you tell me this. Boy, that is great news. I am overwhelmed that the company would do that for me.”

The act of kindness didn't stop there. In a collaborative effort, Coconut Cleaning joined forces with Parker & Sons to assist Dave by providing cleaning services for his home. Commenting on the initiative, the nominating technician, Devon Plush, stated, "I firmly believe in the golden rule. Treat others the way you want to be treated. My passion has always been to give back, and in my current role as a service tech, I get to do that every day with our customers. But this opportunity to give back to Dave meant a lot to me. We could take care of him and do something for him that he truly needed. I was grateful I could be a part of it.”

The heartwarming story of assistance to Dave Arnett is a poignant reminder of the profound impact of kindness and empathy in our communities.
